Fortnite Cross-Play

Epic games has recently introduced Cross-Play. A way through which players from different platforms can compete against each other.

Cross-Play is now working, PC and Xbox One players can play together as well as PC and PS4 players. Cross-Play between Xbox One and PS4 is not yet available.

This is a huge step taken by Epic Games to make the gaming world a bit closer, friends playing in different platforms can play their favorite game – Fortnite together.

Cross-Play is possible between Xbox One and PS4 but is being delayed due to politics between Microsoft and Sony.  According to Tim Sweeney, the head of Fortnite developer Epic Games, it is in the industry’s best interest to allow gamers on competing platforms to play together, and it’s “inevitable”,that this will eventually happen.

Back in September 2017, Epic enabled cross-platform play between  Xbox One and PS4  for Fortnite: Save the World. That was quickly turned off , but it did show again that it appears to be a matter of politics.

Currently, Rocket League is the only game that supports Cross-Play between Xbox One, Ps4 and the Nintendo Switch. Microsoft has been known to support Cross-Play, earlier this month Phil Spencer, head of Xbox said he wants to see Cross-Play between Xbox One and PS4 for Fortnite and other games as well. Sony has not seemed eager to support Cross-Play.
